I’ve been going through each episode of the slow Chinese podcast sentence by sentence. The above image is taken from the first episode of the podcast. I highlighted the characters that I knew beforehand. Even without a concentrated effort to learn the characters, I understand 56% of them.
Before I began my journey to learn how to speak Chinese, I wondered what challenge awaited me. I wondered why people keep saying that Chinese is hard. Between 12 verb tenses, a myriad of inconsistent rules of spelling and pronunciation, and some seriously funky grammatical rules, English would seem to be the harder of the two to learn.
