Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem
“Entities must not be multiplied beyond necessity.” In other words, “The simplest explanation is usually the best.”
We can glean wisdom from the most unlikely of sources. I remember watching an animated movie back in the day called Watership Down. It’s based on the novel by Richard Adams.
Like with the slow Chinese podcast episodes, I start off by highlighting the characters I already knew. Though I promised myself that I would learn 20 characters per day, I say with much chagrin that I haven’t been doing that. Still, the fact that I can pick out some of them is very comforting.
My goal with this exercise is to increase my listening comprehension and increase my ability to think in Chinese in real time.
I am a visual and hands-on type of learner, so the Chinese diary has been a very powerful learning tool for me.
